Clean beauty glossary

Hiya, so I know I talk a lot about clean beauty and eco-friendly beauty products but I know that some terms can be a bit confusing especially if you’ve clicked on any links that take you to specific products I’ve recommended. So I thought today I would explain what some of those terms mean!

5 free

Products which are free from Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, and Camphor

7 free

Products which are free from Formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, formaldehyde resin, camphor, ethyl tosylamide, and xylene.

Paraben

Parabens are potential endocrine disruptors and these disruptions have been linked directly to cancer tumours.

Petroleum 

Petroleum jelly creates the illusion of being moisturised but actually blocks your pores as it’s water repellent and not water soluble

Endocrine disruptors

 These are chemicals which seep into the endocrine system and can disrupt hormones and major organ systems. The largest endocrine disruptor being BPA.

Vegan 

Any cosmetic completely devoid of animal products and animal testing.

100% Organic 

Ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionising radiation. For a product to be deemed 100% organic it has to be approved by the USDA (US) and DEFRA (uk/EU).
